Patrick Barrett-Donlon is a British-Irish musician, drummer, composer and educator based in Cardiff, Wales.
Hailing from Dorset originally, Patrick developed a keen interest in music of all styles from an early age and began studying drums, before additionally taking up classical guitar. During his teenage years, he centered his study towards jazz, with his education taking place on the bandstand, sitting in with local and visiting jazz musicians/ensembles, before graduating to his own gigs. After studying briefly with UK jazz drummer Andy Chapman, Patrick moved to Cardiff to Study at Cardiff University under the tutelage of Elliot Bennett and Huw Warren.
Since graduating, Patrick has gone on to work as a performer, composer and recording engineer with musicians including, Huw Warren, Iain Ballamy, Eddie Gripper, Alex Merritt, Laura Jurd, Kevin Glasgow, Eric Ford, Jean Toussaint, Gary Alesbrook, Pete Long and Nigel Price amongst others.
Patrick dedicates any time he has when not performing, composing or recording to education. His enthusiasm for education extends not only to his private students but also to arts education programs, including work with Community Music Wales, Llamau and Cardiff Music School, the latter including a permanent teaching position.
Patrick is currently working on projects with Eddie Gripper, completing a 29 date UK and Ireland tour, and also with the Wales-based band Orbit Street, while working on his own musical projects.
